PLOT SYNOPSIS
An arrogant actor receives the short script he’s meant to play.
Clearly, it’s less than what he expected.
Flipping through the initial pages, the actor begins to realize it’s not an ordinary piece.
Perhaps, it’s his own story, immersed in a wacky comedy.
PREMIERE IN ARGENTINA
– PRODUCER’S WORDS
It’s a joy to share that “El Actor Errante” had its premiere at a notable festival in Buenos Aires, where it began its journey by receiving none other than the Best Short Film award.
Specifically, it was released on December 1, 2023, at the Matanza Reel Festival.
A METAFICTIONAL JOURNEY
This production immerses us in a story that blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, in an unconventional comedy.
The screenwriter and director, Israel Mirenda, assumes a character that, without a doubt, is intended to be a quirky representation of himself.
Additionally, Pablo Pipolo – a familiar face in the world of Uruguayan theater – also portrays an eccentric version of himself in the lead role.
With this fourth short film, Israel has embarked on a cinematic experiment that toys with the nature of storytelling.
A metafictional journey that beckons intrigue and smiles, appealing to both film-making friends and the general audience.

DIRECTOR’S INSIGHTS
The filming of “The Wandering Actor” presented an interesting challenge.
To begin with, both the bookstore and the restaurant were fully operational which made the location not very accommodating.
Hand in hand with the generosity of the location provider, who graciously offered the place free of charge, an unexpected rule was established: only a maximum of three additional individuals could enter, apart from the main actor and me.
A sound engineer, a cameraperson, and an assistant.
The day before the shooting date, I discovered we couldn’t even turn on any lamp, regardless of its size (a rule I couldn’t always comply with).
Additionally, the time: it had to be resolved within half a day.
That’s how this short film came to life.
Another exercise added to the training.
After all, these inconveniences are useful.
The days with more resources, more technical crew, and fewer surprises will eventually arrive.
Meanwhile, it’s a matter of making the most of what’s at hand and creatively facing every obstacle along the way.
On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, an unfinished version of "The Wandering Actor" had a sneak peek at a Montevideo café during a gathering of poets who had invited Israel Mirenda to share his short films.
